Everyone makes mistakes; even the most prepared person can make simple errors on testing and lose valuable marks.

Let’s take a look at five common mistakes so that you don’t fall into this trap.

1. Not Reading the Question Properly

Don’t think this surprise to you, think again. In any test have you ever written a few words over the set words limit or maybe you provided the two answers but only one is required and just hope for the best. In both instances, your answer will be marked as incorrect because you don’t follow the instructions, so make sure you read the question properly and strict to what the question is asked to do.

2. Change the Subject in the Writing Test

No matter how well structure your work is, you still won’t get a good score if your writing is off topic so to avoid this situation ensure you strict to the subject.

3. Not Pronouncing Words Correctly

As an international English test, IELTS does not deduct marks if you do not have an accent. Your accent is not much important but your pronunciation is very important so for example of the word ‘probably’ use a ‘prolly’ make sure you practice and test your pronunciation with some English speakers before the test.

4. Repeating the Question that was asked when answering in the Speaking Test

Don’t be a Parrot, for example when the question is who is your favorite actress of all time, you shouldn’t answer with my favorite actress of all time is Madhuri Dixit. This is because you are not showing the range of your English you just copying the question. A better answer will be “I love watching movies and I think Madhuri Dixit is a fantastic actress” so remember the show off with many different English words you know.

5. Leaving Blank Answers

In both your listening and reading test make sure you provide answers even if you have to make a guess. You won’t get marks for incorrect answers and you might just surprise yourself by getting some corrects.
